Protyre apprentices begin two-year training scheme

Protyre, the UK’s largest independent chain of fast fit and mechanical centres, has begun training 22 new apprentices following the successful trial of its scheme.

The apprentices will undertake a two-year programme, which has been specially designed by Protyre in conjunction with ProVQ, a leading provider of training programmes for the UK motor industry.

They will receive practical on-the-job experience, combined with intensive training weeks at the state-of-the-art ProVQ facilities in Shropshire. They’ll also each receive additional payments, on top of their salary, to cover sustenance and expenses during the training weeks.

On completion of their training, all apprentices will get an NVQ Level 2 in Vehicle Fitting and the opportunity to develop a full-time career as a motor technician, as well as a tool box and equipment worth £400

Simon Hiorns, retail director at Protyre, said: “Our apprenticeship scheme was only launched a year ago and we deliberately trialed it with a small intake. Our aim was to ensure the training was structured correctly in order to ensure it offered the best possible training.

“The overwhelming success of that trial meant we were able to expand the scheme and recruit these 22 apprentices. Ten of them are undertaking a specialist and industry-first truck technician programme, which was launched due to the demand for high quality truck fitters.
