Logistics Development Manager Danny James has worked for MTS for 16 years. Here's a brief account of how he developed into his current role.
- What was your experience of the logistics career development pathways?
I’ve been fortunate enough to be a large part of the Logistics Development Routes from its inception. Working with Becky and the wider Logistics Senior Team we have put together a clear progression pathway covering all roles, behaviours and training requirements
- How did the logistics career development pathways support your promotion?
I have been employed by Micheldever over 16 years. I started as the Site Manager of the old Chepstow site and progressed through a few roles to my current role of Logistics Development Manager. I have asked to be part of various training course to further my Management / Leadership skills and volunteered to be involved in a number of key projects for both Logistics and Group. Growth is about exposing yourself to new challenges, being flexible, being involved, having a voice, engaging your teams and giving them the freedom to express themselves. I have been fortunate enough that the teams I have around me have been supportive and enabled my growth.
- What advice would you give to other colleagues who are looking to progress their careers at MTS?
The culture has changed within Logistics and there is a drive to train, expose and promote from within the people who behave properly and have an appetite to progress or just be better within their roles. The approach is structured and has a clear framework therefore just ask if it is something you want to be a part of. People won’t chase to improve you. You chase to be improved and your manager supports the improvement
- What are you most enjoying about your new role?
Primarily the role exposes me to the wider network, new people, new ways of thinking and new challenges. It allows me the time to analyse where change is required and the opportunity to make a difference.
