Established in 1972, Micheldever Group has grown to become the largest tyre wholesaler in the UK with a nationwide chain of independent fast fit and mechanical garages.

Our History

  • Micheldever Tyre & Auto Services was founded in by Tony Todd, a qualified Marine Engineer from Torquay. In its infancy, Micheldever Tyre & Auto Services focused on car repairs and sales.
  • The original Micheldever Tyre & Auto Services tragically burned down. For most, this catastrophe would’ve been a major set-back, but Tony Todd turned disaster into an opportunity. He adapted a storage building located in Sutton Scotney as a temporary facility and carried on providing his service to an ever-expanding base of loyal customers.
  • Saw much further development at Micheldever and an expansion in the services offered to its customers on the current site. This led the way for Micheldever Tyre & Auto Services’ evolution from just a tyre retailer to a true tyre specialist.
  • The whole site had a complete revamp and expanded in order to allow the company to offer even more services to its customers, including; exhaust, brakes and suspension. After the revamp was completed, Murray Walker OBE, officially reopened the site in May. Shortly after this our dedicated Motorcycle and Premier Bays were opened.
  • In the year of the Millennium, Micheldever introduced a mobile tyre fitting service so customers could have their tyres fitted whilst they were at work, or home.
  • Micheldever Tyre Services is sold by Tony Todd to a new Management Team, headed by Paul Fox and Richard Sawney with backing from Graphite Capital and Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).
  • MTS becomes one of the largest single independent wholesaler, distributor and retailer of tyres in the UK, selling six million tyres in 2009/2010 (20 percent of the total UK market). In addition, to offering car, motorcycle and off-road tyres, MTS could now fit exhausts, brakes and shock absorbers.
  • Micheldever Tyre Services enters the Vehicle Manufacturer Agents (VMA), channel with a dedicated sales team.
  • MTS Enters the UK’s Fleet market with a dedicated billing and service proposition. Launched Business Development added value programme.
  • Duncan Wilkes, the new CEO, is appointed. Under his leadership the group would see many awards won for training, customer service, database marketing, digital expertise and for being leaders in their fields of expertise (wholesale and retail). Going on to win Wholesaler of the year.
  • Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) acquired 100% of the Micheldever Group Ltd in 2017.
  • The retail arm of Micheldever Group, Protyre, reaches the 150-garage milestone with expansion plans set to continue through to 2025. MTS announce the appointment of a new Wholesale Director, Graham Mitchell, after the retirement of his long-serving predecessor, Alan Baldwin. MTS wins hat-trick of accolades at the annual TyreSafe Awards, including ‘Wholesaler of the Year’ for a second consecutive year.
  • Having spent over 13 years with MTS as Acquisitions Director, Chief Financial Officer and more recently as Chief Operating Officer Jon Cowles is appointed CEO and Duncan Wilkes becomes Vice Chairman of the Board.
