Part Worn Tyres

Micheldever and Protyre are campaigners against the scurge of part worn tyres. They work closely with TyreSafe educating both the public and the enforcement authorities on the legal requirements for part worn tyres in addition to the advantages of new tyres over part worns.

The company's work has included briefing trading standards teams, liaising with the Parliamentary Advisory Committee on Transport (PACT) on part worn tyres and work with the general public both through provision of information, undertaking radio and TV interviews and lobbying actively against incorrectly checked and labeled part worn tyres.

The retail network, Protyre, has also led the programme to ensure that end of life tyres are permanently removed from public use. This has been done by ensuring irreparable holes are drilled in all tyres.

Tyre Wear

Micheldever has led on the provision of tyre wear data to government and government agencies. Through the collection and recording of data on the tread depth of tyres visiting our retail network for a number of years Micheldever are able to provide this data both to Government, the Highways Authorities and politicians. This has allowed changes in the tyre safety of motorists to be monitored through the recession and beyond.

The programme has also allowed the company to campaign actively with the authorities for greater police enforcement and action on tyre tread depths. It also allows the business to support work on raising awareness of the issue of illegal tread depths to educate customers and the public and to support the Rospa campaign for 3mm of tread depth.

Charitable Support

As part of Micheldever's ongoing charitable activity many of it's retail centres have selected charities which the company supports over the year. The Micheldever head office support the local children’s hospice Naomi House (which supports children with life limiting illness and disability from 6 counties in the South of England. Over the 20 years of support over £25,000 has been raised for Naomi House through both customer donations and staff events.

Even the company’s annual Family Day and Football tournament helps to raise money for Naomi House.

Other centres support other local charities. Protyre Tavistock has sponsored the Sunrise Cup and the Tavistock Specials for 8 years. The Tavistock Specials are a football club for disabled children and the Sunrise Cup is an annual football tournament, in Tavistock, for disabled children’s football teams from around the country.

All of the company's retail centres and offices are encouraged to have a local charity that they support and this can cover many areas – Protyre Wells support the Somerset Air Ambulance by donating an annual prize to a charity auction with funds going to them. In 2014 a signed Bridgestone Motorcycle picture raised £450 towards this very worthwhile cause.

Customer Safety

Micheldever works closely with TyreSafe the trade body that encourages tyre safety. As part of this programme the Protyre retail won the prestigious Tyre Retailer of the Year award in 3 consecutive years, latest being 2016. The support includes work on both the annual Motorcycle Tyre Safety Month in the spring of each year and the Tyre Safety month programme in October each year.

As part of the programme the company actively encourage customers to visit for a free tyre check and even organise tyre and motor vehicle awareness evenings. Since 2012 over 2,000 people have attended a tyres safety training course run in one of Protyre's retail centres.
