Following the sad news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, I am sure that for many of you this evening there must be a sense of disorientation, perhaps of sadness or anxiety. The Queen was, for almost all of us, the only monarch and Head of State that we have ever known. She was the nation’s matriarch and a welcome constant in our lives when around us there has been so much change.
It is hard to imagine a world without her and, both nationally and globally, she will be mourned by many. More importantly however, we will celebrate her life and the values that she embodied. That sense of duty to others, selflessness and putting one's own desires to one side. Through the way that she lived her life she earned the highest respect of so many millions of people here in the UK and around the world - whether they believed in the monarchy or not.
